Capital Ventures manages private venture capital partnership funds for
individual and institutional investors which invest in growth companies. The
original BCV fund was formed in 1982. For BCV IV and V, Johan von der Goltz
has assembled a new management team which includes
partners Jack Shields and Alex von der Goltz
and support staff. The partners are accomplished
and experienced professionals who have a diverse and complementary range of
skills and a broad network of domestic and international relationships. The
existing Boston Capital Ventures partnerships have attracted leading U.S. institutions
and individuals from 16 countries as investors. BCV's proximity to one of the
world's largest centers of entrepreneurial activity is an advantage in sourcing
and managing its portfolio of investments.
BCV seeks to invest in companies in the following areas: enterprise & infrastructure software, revenue management, marketing resource management, CAD/CAM, collaboration & development tools, Web Services, B2B technologies and telecommunications software companies with whom the general partners can leverage their industry and operating experience to generate above-average returns to investors.
The companies BCV generally invests in require between $1 to $10 million in capital, already have a product or service that is being used or beta tested by at least one customer and are seeking experienced, professional strategic guidance on how to grow their business. This segment is increasingly underserved by the majority of established venture capital firms, most of whom require minimum investments of $10 million.
Many Venture funds lack the broad management experience that contribute to the success of early stage companies. BCV brings to its portfolio companies management experience and expertise as well as access to an established network of highly successful entrepreneurs. Each of the members of the management team have complementary backgrounds in line and operations management as well as the requisite financial expertise.
